These last 18 months, MES, together with the organizations Front 21\/42, Macedonian Green Center, Eco-Sense, Ecoscop, Celor, Go Green, Krste Jon and Florozone, participated in the project Activism in Practice, in the framework of which the organizations succeeded in making changes in many cases connected to the environment in Macedonia, including the strategy documents and laws.<\/p>\n

One of the conclusions of the project is that the ecological democracy is not one of the things Macedonia should be proud of, but still it is not impossible for it to be initiated and developed. The experience so far has shown that the recipe for success when participating in decision making connected to the environment is to act with joined forces.<\/p>\n

According to Iskra Stojkovska, the project coordinator, during a year and a half, the organizations initiated:
\n–\tA promise by the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning that a revision will be carried out on all of the issued permissions for industrial capacities;
\n–\tMaking the study about OKTA pollution public;
\n–\tSupport by a great number of international organizations for protection of the NP Mavrovo.<\/p>\n

\u201cPart of the international organizations which support us will file a draft resolution for conservation of the NP Mavrovo at the World congress of IUCN, which should take place in Seoul, South Korea in September 2012\u201d, Iskra Stojkovska from Front 21\/42 said.
\nThe organizations in the framework of the debate Participation of the Public in the Decision Making and the Politics for the Environment \u2013 Our Story pointed out that the Law on free access to information of public importance, the Law on environment, the Law on nature protection and the Aarhus Convention are still not respected.<\/p>\n

They also required alteration in the Law on environment protection and its defining of \u201cas soon as possible\u201d for submitting the required information (15 days); alterations in the Law on free access to information of public importance and regulation implementation which will initiate filing violation procedure and giving of sentence by the Board for protection of the right for free access to information of public importance.<\/p>\n

The ecological civil societies have also asked the home institutions not to see them as \u201cenemies\u201d or \u201cpredators\u201d, but as partners whose views and suggestions can improve the quality of the strategy documents or the implementation of the enforced laws.
